National Geographic - The Lost Film of Dian Fossey [docupedia]

Dian Fossey has become a modern legend. Passionate, fearless, and committed, Dian devoted eighteen years to study gorillas in the mountainous rainforest of Volcanoes National Park.

Less well-known, however, is Bob Campbell-wildlife photographer and filmmaker whose footage propelled Dian and the mountain gorillas into the international spotlight. Campbell was hired by National Geographic to film Fossey's work, and from 1968 to 1972 he shot 70,000 feet of film. Unfortunately, most of it has never been seen. Now, National Geographic is unveiling this extraordinary glimpse into the world of the mountain gorillas and Dian's unique rapport with them in Mountain Gorillas: The Lost Film of Dian Fossey.

History Channel - Prehistoric Monsters Revealed [docupedia]

Through advanced computer graphics, location shooting and expert interviews, we will present detailed illustrations of what these ancient monsters looked like, where and how they lived, and how they died. We'll see how most species were wiped out during one of the five major extinctions in Earth's history...when the chemistry of the entire planet was altered by impacts from a comet, an asteroid, and eruptions of super volcanoes. We'll also learn how palaeontologists discovered these creatures, and how they make sense of the record they left behind.

Discovery Channel - Sunrise Earth International - Cloudforest Waterfall [docupedia]

http://forums.mvgroup.org/release.images/hukumuzuku/snapshot20090109152134.jpg

La Paz River, Vara Blanca, Costa Rica — The crater lake of the Poas Volcano drains from 9,000 feet into this high altitude cloudforest ravine. Stepping downward through a series of five waterfalls, we descend as the sun rises. Rays of light catch suspended water particles from the falling water, as green threads of life cling to sodden cliff walls. From within its pupa, an owl butterfly emerges with the increasing warmth of day, pumping fluid into its silken wings. Through the last rock opening, the water and sun burst out and down towards a restful pool, the famous La Paz waterfall.

BBC - Michael Palin on Anne Redpath [ docupedia]

http://forums.mvgroup.org/release.images/artistharry/ANNE%201.jpg

Anne Redpath (1895 - 1965)
Born in Galashiels, Anne Redpath studied at Edinburgh College of Art and Moray House from 1913, qualifying as an art teacher in 1917. She married in 1920 and settled in France, painting little until returning to Edinburgh in 1934. Despite almost giving up painting at the start of her career, she went on to produce a superb body of work which was both popular with the public and acclaimed by critics.
Redpath was an intriguing and complex character. Although she had a strict congregationalist upbringing in the Scottish Borders, she developed a passion for Catholic architecture and ornament. She travelled the world and had a weakness for Parisian couture, yet she remained a committed Scot with strong left-wing views. These dichotomies in her life were reflected in her work, which combines the sensual with the intellectual and the familiar with the exotic. Her paintings display an exceptional degree of individuality and masterly skill, and her use of colour and contrast, shadow and light confirm her standing as Scotland's greatest woman painter of the mid 20th century and arguably, one of Europe's finest artists.
This film is the result of a long and fruitful relationship with BBC Scotland, and in particular producer Mhairi McNeill and director Eleanor Yule, who first put me on the road to arts documentaries and have been a constant support and inspiration ever since. Michael Palin, London, May 2008.

National Geographic - Mysteries of Survival [docupedia]

http://forums.mvgroup.org/release.images/bloodeye/vlcsnap-59868.jpg

A cross-country skier stranded in the mountains, a miner lost in the scorching Sonoran Desert, a hiker in trouble in the Adirondacks wage desperate struggles to survive. Who will make it -- and why?
It is a mystery that scientists are determined to solve. Why do some people survive exposure, predators, starvation and trauma, while others succumb? We explore the incredible and dramatic real life mysteries of three people struggling to survive against all odds.

Pablo Valencia is left stranded in the searing heat of the desert for days without water; hiker David Boomhower is lost and alone for more than two weeks and Charles Horton shatters his leg while skiing in a remote part of Colorado and battles freezing temperatures, sleep deprivation and starvation for days on end. Ultimately, only two of these men survive. We follow their individual stories throughout their respective ordeals, seeing how different responses to the situations either help survival or spell potential disaster. And, we'll reconstruct some of the key scenes in which they made these fateful choices.

Luck plays a major part in determining who will survive a sinking ship or a killer hurricane. But scientists have long suspected that some people are better at controlling the body's reaction to trauma…and that survival of the fittest cam sometimes mean the fittest mind.

Using CGI, we look at the human body and its defenses in great detail, including its reactions to heat, cold, starvation, and dehydration. We also review the science of our skin. Plus, what causes our minds to have strange thoughts or bouts of negative and positive feelings in such extreme conditions. Mysteries of survival follows these three men as they battle with pain, madness and hallucinations to prove that psychological strength and will to live can be as vital as physiological strength and stamina when the human body is put to the ultimate test.

Discovery Channel - Africa's Super 7 [docupedia]

"The good, the bad and the ugly, the teacher, the lover, the fighter and the strong, silent type! Stars of a tense 24-hour drama with birth, death and everything in between."

On the northern bank of the Sand River in the Mala-Mala Game Reserve in South Africa, seven magnificent creatures reside in an area the size of Manhattan Island. Tracking them for 24 hours we reveal the invisible threads that bind them together in a never-ending daily drama. This action-packed film will show how seven individual stories become one, how the animals move in and out of one another’s lives in the course of a single day. Sometimes their encounters happen just by chance, at other times they are intent on stalking each other down. In all cases whenever they meet the encounter is always riveting.

Each animal has different strengths, even some weaknesses, but seeing them in action is always impressive. Tracking them through one day and one night we witness their dealings with the neighbours from hell, staking their territory, stalking the same prey, risking their lives and cautiously interacting with or avoiding each other. This is a privileged and rare glimpse into the complex lives of Africa’s Super Seven.

Each species has its own vital role to play in this unfolding 24-hour drama. There is no room for the weak and in the African bush there’s only one rule: the biggest, strongest, fastest and smartest survive.

As amazing as these animals are, they all have their Achilles heel too, and occasionally our story includes a fight for survival for them just like any other creature of the untamed African wild. For Africa’s Super Seven there are no free lunches. Some will pay the ultimate price and some will even be lunch. Not for the faint hearted, this is a story of power, trust, hunger, desperation and elation – an unforgettable adventure.
